chest freezing bodies

what to do with old chest freezers

Chest freezers are big - they can make a huge "cube" of ice. The idea is to put a shop front dummy (dressed or nude) into a chest freezer, add water until full and freeze. It might be an idea to put the chest freezer on a trailer.

Then tow trailer in to the centre of town, say late Sunday night. By this time the block, with embedded body, will have thawed a bit and can be emptied onto the road.

There should be bubbles in the ice so people can see that there is a body inside - but it will take some time for to to thaw.

There is money to be made (well, maybe or maybe just a laugh) - take photos and then sell to national newpapers.

It's akin to chasing a cat up a tree, getting fire brigate out, taking photos, and selling photos to papers - but goes for "waah" horror factor rather than "Aaah, poor thing" factor.

You have to scroll down a bit to find the discussion on using fridges and chest freezers. [pottedstu, Dec 11 2001, last modified Oct 17 2004]

What ¯bristolz said; but, you've given me an idea for how to make by lost-ice process a human sized candle!

How do you propose getting those air bubbles in the ice??? I could just never manage. I think there would be more of a novel effect if you places the dummy's fingers near the edge of the ice block so that when it started melting, a hand or fingers would be the first thing visible.

Although, at the actual sight of a hand which does not look entirely human, the trick is ruined. So, why not just give up on this idea?

This is just the sort of thing which wins the Turner Prize (ie, lame, pointless, non-art...).

I don't think filling a chest freezer with water will work, though...the air has to circulate for it to be cold. <Where are the vents on one? I don't have one to look at...>
