When one Halfbakery idea is linked to another, a link in the reverse direction should automatically be added. If idea A is connected to idea B in some way, it is of interest to readers of idea B that idea A is linked to it.

This idea, linked recursively ... bidirectional_20intra-Halfbakery_20links
for demonstration purposes. [8th of 7, Dec 02 2020]

There would need to be a different "link" button for purely internal operations, but it can be done.

Actually, the Halfbakery linking logic already detects internal links, deleting the domain part of the URL to make it a relative link
hippo, Dec 02 2020

Are you sure about that ?

The external URL for this idea is:

"https://www. halfbakery.com/idea /bidirectional_20 intra-Halfbakery_20 links #1606922268" which includes the unique numeric identifier; the recursive link we have inserted is "https://www.halfbakery.com /idea/ bidirectional_20intra- Halfbakery_20links".

The domain's present in both those instances.

if you edit that link though, does the full URL show in the URL text entry box?
hippo, Dec 02 2020

Just out of interest [hip], what did your last slave die of ...? Overwork, by any chance ?
8th of 7, Dec 02 2020

Yes - why do you ask?
hippo, Dec 02 2020

No real reason, just wanted to confirm a suspicion.
8th of 7, Dec 02 2020

Yes, I know - that's what I was saying. It was [8th] who was saying that the whole URL was in the field
hippo, Dec 02 2020

Also it feels slightly odd to be posting an idea on the Halfbakery on a topic I know something about, but the subject of this idea is basically pretty close to what I wrote my PhD on.
hippo, Dec 02 2020

// originally I had said 8th had it right //

Drat and double drat ... our Cunning Plan has failed to confuse and befuddle [kdf] ... (since [hippo] is pretty much the Gold Standard for befuddlement and confusion, we didn't expect to achieve anything there).

We'd have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you pesky kids.

Not to question [jutta]'s awesomeness in the creation of the halfbakery; but perhaps instead of an annotations "user & date" tag being right aligned below the final line of an annotation, having it LEFT aligned below would be better, as all usernames would be in the same relative place, and so easier to find & follow.

Cloned links or annotations by rank seems to be a concept held over from the 1990s. Over my head, certainly, but y'all cyber-whizzes go on.

I like this, but it makes my head spin today. All this back and forth...

//what did your last slave die of ...?//

Not doing what he was told.

May I give it a bun? Even if I don’t understand the chatter and I must say to [8th]... you did not fail to confuse and befuddle me! The idea made sense when I first read it.
xandram, Dec 04 2020

// All this back and forth... //

I know what you mean, [blissy]. You might perhaps make a few more annos and then click the recursive link at the top to see if your annos are on the original idea or the copy. Holding the screen up to a mirror may help.

Is it snowing yet in your neck of the woods?
whatrock, Dec 04 2020

       //click the recursive link// Ah! A many-worlds-hypothesis test!
pocmloc, Dec 04 2020

// you did not fail to confuse and befuddle me! //

Sadly, that's not something we can look on as any sort of an achievement ...

//[hippo] is pretty much the Gold Standard for befuddlement and confusion// - such flattery!
