This anti missile countermeasure deploys a cloud of sticky
tar-like substance which sticks to the incoming missile with
the following result: blocks sensors, throws the missile off
balance, sticks warhead deployment doors, catches fire frying
internal systems.
Can be deployed in clusters creating
a large cloud that the
offensive missiles must fly though.

If you have the ability to reliably explode your tar bomb on the incoming missile, might I suggest it be modified to contain explosives rather than tar. Explosives will blow up the incoming missile with the following result: blows up sensors, throws the missile off balance by blowing it up, blows up warhead deployment doors, catches fire frying internal systems because they got blown up. |
Admittedly your tar bomb might be good for finishing parking lots and sealing roofs. However, it might be that if you are in an incoming missile type situation, your bomb bomb could in a pinch be used to blow up other things, like planes shooting missiles, ships shooting missiles, and monsters who spit missiles and lasers come out of their nose horns. |

@ bungston, LMAO! The sensors on a missile do not require sight, or ventillation, therefore the best you could hope for would be the tar jamming up the control surfaces. |
//The sensors on a missile do not require sight// You mean like the TV, laser-homing or IR-guided variety? |
Or the radar guided variety (SAM and AAM). |

Unless it's of the pidgeon-guided variety of course. |

I'm afraid I'm not going to like the answer, but I'm going to ask the question anyway: [21Q] - why would a GPS-guided weapon need sight? (apart from, perhaps, reading the LCD on the Garmin) |

So that it can keep track of the little dot on the map display?
I'm envisioning a re-working of the Dark Star 'intelligent bomb' scenario...
Annoying GPS system with overly soothing, female voice: "Veer 10 degrees right in 100 yards and pass to the left of the first concrete bunker."
Missile (annoyed): "Oh very well, but this is the last time!" |

Bollocks sensors? Missiles are like bees, they have layers? |

Throws a missile off balance, as if missiles were a cat being thrown off a building. Exactly which part of this projectile are you wishing to unbalance? No significant missile is dumb enough to fly like a 'plane. They rather fall like well thrown rocks, you have been watching too many movies. |
And my very favourite, Sticks warhead doors. As if! Open the warhead doors HAL! I am sorry, I can't do that Dave! Missiles DO NOT have "warhead doors", once again, too many movies. |

Let's leave "catches fire" to someone with a more incendiary attitude. |
How effective is it against bass seeking missles? |

<hazy on operational security protocol regarding this matter>
There may or may not have been one of these systems defending a base camp (from incoming artillary) in which I might have been stationed, in a theater of operations of which I might have participated in.

Watching it test fire may or may not have been friggin AWESOME!!! |
This idea, however, most definately blows. |

MikeD - May it or may in not be good at skeet shooting? |
