This'd be a Bad Thing for those among us who are inclined to drink lager. Lager has bubbles put in it because it tastes of not much. Wet glasses ==> flat pints ==> a diminished drinking experience. |
Wonders if alcohol raises or lowers the melting point of ice. Or how patrons will drink up without melting the handle. |
The better bars (yeah, I know you don't have any of those in Britain ;) do chill glasses before serving. |
pondering this and have decided that a wooden handle would be good. |
Fishbone - this would make the beer Ice cold. Real ale should not be cold .... lager maybe. |
Wold be good in the summer for servicg cider, though...... hmm. Fishbone withdrawn pending further research. |
"a wooden handle would be good" - why not forget the glass and do beer popsicles? |
Beer would taste like water from the melting ice. |
Baked - although for vodka - see link. |
I'd be a little nervous... |
Unless the beer was already quite cold, wouldn't the temperature change have the potential to crack the ice? I know ice cubes snap and crack when I pur cold juice, or other beverages onto them. |
If you can't solve that difficult though, it would make for an excellent practical joke, especially in pubs which leave the glass cups in the frezer until serving. A simple switch to the "Evil" category might be all you need here. |
"cools your beer more or less instantly"... |
No, not at all. Unless the vessel was very narrow, or in some other way had a massive surface area/volume ratio, the cooling wouldn't be instant at all. In fact, I think you'd find that without constant stirring, it would take quite some time to cool down the beer. Unless you were putting already ice-cold beer into the ice cup..... |
Hmmm... [+]Cold beer (lager rather than bitter... Everyone knows, it's best to put a good bitter in the microwave for a few seconds, before drinking)... But [-] I think the BSI/ISO would want to ensure that the contents weren't otherwise corrupted by the container... What TYPE of water too? Thames? Washing-up? or Other (more likely in the pubs round here) (Yuch!)? [+/-] |

Gy liks! Gy liks are stuck to the tankard! |
How about a prank glass that consists of glass everywhere but the bottom? You put it in a mold, add some water, freeze it and hey presto - a glass that will hold your drink only for a limited time. |
An icy bottom wouldn't be very noticable if the ice is clear enough. |
<pun-prevent>and yes - I know icy bottoms may be prevented by long woollen underwear, but let's not go there, okay?</pun-prevent> |

welcome to the madness [forthur] |
people have commented on my cold extremities... |
[po] Madness? I thought this was pretty much the usual level here at HB? |
Hmmm. Thinking about cold extremities - I mean ice bottoms to glasses gave me another idea. Before I post it here: does anyone know if any kind of cooling coasters have already been suggested here? |
