To counteract the widespread unpopularity of Yoda speak, the master has released a tome of limericks and poems.
A boy from Tatooine, I met. Him ready as a Jedi, I get. And fight like a man, Also I can, Except that, my pants, I wet.
(?) skye boat song
http://www.contempl...otmidi/skyeboat.htm lends itself well to yoda-speak, especially in the second and fourth stanzas. [sappho, Jul 15 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]
(?) The other Yoda song

How come George W Bush and Dan Quayle make a few mistakes with the English language and people consider them idiots, while Yoda can't even manage to get subject-verb-object in the correct order, and he's considered this supremely profound being of intergalactic knowledge? Does Dubya need big pointy ears? |
|

Dubya has big pointy ears. |

Impress me not, starwars ideas |

Any chance poetry could redeem JarJarspeak? |

In space, a bad empire, I knew. To Republic Galactic, they flew. Bravely we fought. Died they or were caught. For breakfast, their bots now I chew. |

UB: also latin, which fits into the whole yoda: wise thing.. |

I went to a wedding in Scotland recently and there was a hymn sung to the tune of the Skye Boat Song. The verse parts (orig.: "Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar, Thunder clouds rend the air..." etc) are clearly quite difficult to set proper sentence structures. The writer trying to make a wedding-appropriate song ended up with something like "Hard is their toil, Weary they'll be..." I forget the rest but I was giggling away at the back of the church. I'll try to find my order of service and write what it all said. |

I always figured Yoda-speak was supposed to be like poorly translated Japanese. The whole wise martial arts sage / hermit thing. In Japanese you say a lot of things like "tasty it is" or "ready are you?" |

Well I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a Muppet but he's wrinkled and green
He's my Yoda
Y-O-D-A Yoda
Yo-yo yo yo-yo-da.... |

Me a Y, you give. Y! Me an O, you give. O! Me a D, you give. D! Me an A, you give. A! What spell, it does? Yoda It louder, you say. YODA! Not hear you, I can! Y-O-D-A-! |

Jedi, we are. Tell, you can! Droids, we beat, and off they ran! Off, count - 1 2! Off, sound - 3 4! 1 2 3 4 - 1 2 - 34! |

Best, our master Yoda was! Now, that know, Count Dooku does! Off, count - 1 2! Off, sound - 3 4! 1 2 3 4 - 1 2 - 34! |

Old Yoda once lived in a cave
Old Yoda did not have to shave
He wore robes with no pants
To look good when he danced
Did you know Yoda's first name is Dave? |

Dubya's mistakes are more along the dyslexic order (terriers and bariffs) while Yoda's
are more reminicent of another language. It's one thing to sound forign, quite another
to sound dyslexic which still has a stigma to it.
Not that I like Dubya. |
|
|
Remain silent no longer, I can. Speak I must. |
|
|
Perhaps this isn't the place for it (there are not many places for it), but as no one has yet mentioned the cute little Y-O-D-A song that made the Web rounds a few years ago, I've provided the link. |
|
|
Warn you I must: you have to be a certain kind of Village People-loving disco-apologist Star Wars fan to like this little song parody. All others might be merely annoyed. |
|
|
[pottedstu]: crazy call me, but I think Dubya would look pretty good with a set of big pointy ears. It might help him look wise and gnomish, yes, hmmm? |
|
|
You're, like, crazy, k? He, like, SO has the wrong colouring to pull of those ears. Like, talk to the hand. |
|
|
[unabubba] i'm shocked you would
even suggest such a thing... |
|
|
incidentally, folks, you all need to
get your limerick rules straight.
most of you have way too many
syllables per line. |
|
|
lines 1, 2 and 5: seven to ten
syllables. your options are: |
|
|
-** -** -
* -** -** -
** -** -** -
|
|
|
where - is a stressed syllable and *
is an unstressed. essentially, the
line is made of two dactyls plus
one single stressed syllable, and
may optionally begin with a
headless dactyl (one which is
missing its first one or two parts).
you can also add the so-called
"feminine ending" which is a legal
move in most metered poetry, in
which you tack on one unstressed
syllable at the end of any line. |
|
|
lines 3 and 4 have four to six
syllables: |
|
|
being composed of one dactyl plus
one stressed syllable and
optionally beginning with one
unstressed syllable. likewise, the
feminine ending is legit. |
|
|
a jedi young 'walker became

forgotten about feminine
endings...] |

urbanmatador: And of course the added challenge here is to end lines with a rhyming verb. |

[farmerjohn] indeed. though, not
necessarily a verb... |

the thing that we ask about
jenny
is can there be very many
young girls in the place
with so lovely a face
the answer to that is not any!
(from "matilda")
|
|
|
that's all nouns. my star wars
example had all sorts of words for
line endings. |
|
|
With soda rhymes Yoda. With barf rhymes Darth. |
|
|
For this to work, surely the rhymes at the start of
lines would have to be, rather than the ends at? |
