World Anthem
Same song for everybody, only the lyrics are specific to each respective country. | |
This has actually been done sort of.
God Save The Queen, (England) Hail To Thee In The
Victor's
Crown (Pre WW1 Germany) and My Country Tis Of Thee
(America) are the exact same songs with different lyrics.
I know it's always embarrassing when that one starts and
I accidentally start singing
the German version.
One composer could offer to write the lyrics for any
country
that was interested.
Could even make it a contest, see which country could
get a
singer to perform the most heart touching version.

I think we should go for a new tune, frankly. GStQ is OK, but
it's not great - no hooks, repetitive and predictable melody,
no middle eight. If we ever do connect with another
civilisation, it's going to be embarrassing if their planetary
anthem is really spiffy. |

"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone;
They paved paradise,
And put up a parking lot
" |

It would be fun if two countries that hated each other had
the same ending "Help us killlll the _____" but had the other
country's name in the last line. |
|
|
"Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves!
We shall never ever ever, be the..." - oh, sorry, we're not
meant to talk about the last bit, are we? |
|
|
Would the anthem change with changing epochs? Material and molecular science doesn't really have a culture defining baseline. |
|
|
They could change the lyrics anytime they wanted. They
could even feature reference to the newest president,
premier or prime minister. Of course with modern politics
half the country would boo that part but that might be cool. |
|
|
This is going to have to be a great musical composition to transcend generational tastes. Maybe, get an AI to crunch 'globally' all the lasting songs for a starting baseline. |

// oh, sorry, we're not meant to talk about the last bit, are we? // |

"Rebellious Scots to crush"? |

There's another sort ? Who knew, huh ? |

Re. Big Yellow Taxi - ironically, we just tore down a parking
lot to make room for a new arboretum. Waitrose were a bit
narked. |

So, a tree museum. Do you charge the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em ? Apparently that's the standard admission fee. |

I attended the inauguration of the new organ in the Monaco
cathedral. They started with a pretty boisterous and lively tune
on full organ. I was surprised to see everyone getting to their
feet; following suit, I realised that this jazzy number was in
fact a national anthem. |
|
|
Maybe Monaco can be said to be 'another civilisation'
anyway... |

It doesn't say anywhere that your're going to let them out again. You take their money and let them in. Then you get them to follow the signs to the "Special Exhibition of Carnivorous Plants" in the Triffid house. |

Saves a fortune on feeding; just make sure that at the security check no-one's carrying any bottles of liquid. It might be sea water ... |

Pale blue dot, 'tis of thee,
No lines of property,
Of thee I sing;

"To the God we have made we bow down low,

Bla bla bla bla bla, bla bla bla bla,
bla bla our des-ti-ny. |

As we march into the extermination pods
we hold our heads up high. |
|

Bla bla bla bla bla, bla bla bla bla
bla bla to do or die." |

I don't know why it would order us into extermination
pods. Something to do with environmental balance or
some such perhaps. |

I'm going to vote for the Star Wars theme tune. |
|
|
My vote is in....see new national anthem link.. |
|
|
As a backup plan we could user Radiohead's National
Anthem |
|
|
// the Star Wars theme tune // |
|
|
The "Imperial March", we presume ... |
|
|
No no. I was thinking of the Cantina music. |
