carrying much needed natural light to windowless rooms.

Internal rooms with no windows can be very depressing places to work, all that flourecent lighting..urgh.

I was thinking about all that space above ceiling tiles and if it could be used for anything useful, and then it came to me; what is needed is light conduits in the ceiling rooms with windows, that carry the light inwards to the dull internal rooms.

The means by which I propose to accomplish this are as follows; wide periscope style arrangements shall be incorporated into the buildings. The width shall be that of the room over which they carry the light, the height that of the ceiling tile-true ceiling height. Angled mirrors on the outside of the building will reflect light down the conduit and to another angled mirror in the windowless room, which will introduce some natural light into the room.

A drawback of this is that the interior room will not be able to have polystyrene tiled cielings at a hight that matches the rest of the floor, but I think this is a small price to pay.

Perhaps use a variant of these. [waugsqueke, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Seems redundant with the idea I linked, the only difference is you are using mirrors instead of fiber optics.

Hmmm, maybe I'll delete it then.

Sky lights are notorious pidgeon roosts, although you'll occasionally come accross a gifted one,(With an artistic bent) Windshield wipers come to mind.
