Why Put Up With The Full Moon

Sure it looks great in Frank Capra movies, but we can do better

What are we going to do when we go there again?

Using transparent camouflage techniques, we can take advantage of this natural landscape. The possibilities are endless, from fighting lycanthropy to really large scale light displays. Maybe we'll just have our own glowing ring in the sky.

Why? And do you need adaptive camouflage or just black paint?
Worldgineer, Jan 28 2004

       Why? Because it's there :)

black paint won't do. You want the proper stars glowing behind it and computer control over every pixel so you can project different shapes

Imagine those hungry aliens looking for that perfect planet/moon combo. Flip a switch, and we're off the short list
theircompetitor, Jan 28 2004

thank you all -- great illustrations.

Klaatu, exactly what I'm thinking though the stars would have to shine through.

It occurs to me that once we have enough fibert optic cable up there [2_fries_shy_of_a_happy_meal], we can also have a really large drive in movie theater. Then maybe we can get k_sra's image up there, the moon mooning us, as it where

And we haven't yet fully explored the potential for curing lycanthropy
theircompetitor, Jan 28 2004

all right -- how about using a lunastationary satellite to capture the dark side and rebroadcast it to the light side? Doesn't the dark side deserve a chance?
theircompetitor, Jan 28 2004

The power of The Dark Side is strong...
thelambs, Jan 28 2004

Some dodgy sci-fi I read recently (totally unmemorable apart from this one idea) - some advertising execs sent a rocket up to the moon, pre-programmed to bombard the lunar surface with paint to produce . . . a Coca-Cola logo!

Does anyone own the moon? What's to stop someone actually doing this one day?
fudspong, Feb 07 2004

I think this is one case were posession is even more than 9/10ths of the law.
theircompetitor, Feb 07 2004

9/10ths of the law... What does that mean anyway?
zigness, Feb 27 2004

It means that the answer to fudspong's question is nothing.
theircompetitor, Feb 27 2004

The first Red Dwarf book had a small sub-plot about a project to bring several hundred stars to supernova, to emblazon the Coca-Cola logo across the sky for a few weeks.

One of my old idears was to place cameras facing all angles of an object, completely covering all angles, 360 degrees, with small television camo to go all over. The camera sticking you of your back projects what it sees on your chest, and so on... Where would you get enough power to turn on all those cameras and LEDs? It could take a while to turn them all on!

Just imagine watching from Earth... Like a giant loading screen going reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly slow.

If this is what you guys are talking about of course, I don't know what you'r trying ton convey. What's lycanthropy ?
EvilPickels, Nov 08 2005

Well a lycanthrope is a werewolf, so I would presume that lycanthropy is either werewolfism, werewolfery or werewolfing

I seem to recall someone trying to sell plots on the moon a few years back. Not certain how they came into ownership.
RayfordSteele, Nov 09 2005

[rayfordsteele] .....Well, naturally, someone sold it to them.
sophocles, Nov 09 2005

It was via the "science" of probalism, which reverses the onus of proof. Allowing for people to make outlandish claims, and someone else has to then come up with proof to refute them. It's also why the centre of the universe is supposedly a manhole cover in Idaho.
