This ceiling would consist of a single large vent with an
array
of powerful fans; a large sheet of something that could
be
rolled over the top of the fans; and a tank of filtered air
large
enough to replace all the air in the house twice. At the
push
of a button the fans would begin to
operate, cycling all
the air
in the house immediately. The sheet would then roll over
the
top of the fans keeping the air from dispersing back into
the
house
Useful for people paranoid about the
government, people conducting chemical experiments
that
may contaminate the air, people who burn their food a
lot,
people who are sick and want to replace the air often to
avoid
making others sick, and most importantly useful for
getting
rid of mosquitoes.
Bonus: you can cool or heat
the whole house to outside air temperature in seconds.

Wouldn't swapping the air so quickly result in a breeze that would knock plants over, pull posters off the wall, and suck the sheets off the bed? On the positive side, it might also vacuum the rug. |

You could spend the winter months compressing air into tanks and using the waste heat to heat the house, then during the summer release it and use the coolth. |

The energy stored in the compressed air could drive an air motor which turns a fan which blows cooled air round the house, and the motor exhaust will be cold too. Just make sure you have an oil tap on the outlet. |
