The field consists of a round ice rink connected to a straight section that ends in an ice ramp adjacent to a pile of snow.
The team consists of 10 people wearing ice skates and 2 people wearing ice cleats. The team lines up and holds hands, then starts spinning in a circle. The two with cleats
are in the center providing most of the power, though all are working to get the line spinning as fast as possible.
When an appropriately terrifying speed is reached, one of the end skaters lets go and aims for the ramp. This skater, called the flyer, then does graceful tricks in the air, landing in the soft pile of snow.
This sport combines upper arm strength, leg strength, and graceful coordination in what should result in a crowd pleasing olympic event.
Optional modification: Have a flyer on either end of the line, and either they launch in opposite directions or both in the same direction. However, this first option makes it difficult to watch both performances and the second option is, well, dangerous.

Or you could just ice up a ski jump. Croissant, either way. |

I grew up in Southern California. I've read of such things, but it's only a theory to me. |

You sir, were deprived of a great part of childhood. |

Sold. It would be more fun than skating off the "C" street bridge buttress after it's frozen over. |

I wouldn't mind //landing in the soft pile of snow// as long as I got to be first. |

I've seen skaters at ice shows form a rotating line as described here, minus the cleats. The line is formed while in motion and the last to join the line at each end have to skate as fast as they can to join at the speed of the outermost skaters. Once complete they continue as one for many more revolutions while increasing their speed. As a kid I remember thinking how cool it is that the outer skaters go faster than they could propel themselves and I wondered just how fast they could go. [+] for creating something that would reveal the answer. |
