The builders next door are listening to the radio, which is
playing an unending stream of great 80's hits. This makes
me
think there ought to be a sort of Shazam service to identify
radio stations. So, after listening to one or two songs and
comparing with all other stations available on local
FM/DAB
bands
this would tell you what station you were hearing.

hmm... why not pick up the frequency from the radio, itself ? It used to be illegal to operate an FM radio on an airplane, for fear it would mess up the aircraft controls. |

What's a Radio? - ha (actually I still use my classic Bush radio with no FM) and I will NEVER use DAB - crap, puny signal compared to FM (I have a great Roberts FM radio too - British of course) |

How do you know it's a radio station? |

The real problem is that there are too many stations
on the wireless. Why it was considered necessary to
supplement the Home Service with crass - even
commercial! - broadcasts is quite beyond reasoning. |
