A small webcam would be built into the center of an L.C.D. flat screen. This way you would be looking towards the camera rather than looking below or above or to the side, were the monitor is. (I know that this would sacrifice a small spot of pixels in the center)

So if you were having a video conversation with somebody, there might be a black spot on their face. This might be annoying to some people, especially when you aren't using the web cam, but at least it wouldn't be annoying that they aren't looking at you.

Same thought, and without the black spot. Big_20sister_20is_2...0transistor_20array

yeah, Apple filed a patent (pah!) for a whole screen webcam about a fortnight ago (I can't find a link now), and without having to sacrifice a central black spot.

EDIT: ah, there it is (link).

You know what that is, don't you? It's a telescreen! Argh! And only twenty two years late. Before long, there'll be one in evey home! We're doomed, I tell you! Doomed!

Better idea to place three cameras at the edge of the screen and to use software to reassemble the three images to create a head-on shot.

       Good idea !

Also recommend "1984" by George Orwell (Telescreen reference!)

Bun, depsite Apple getting there first !

Actually I'm a bit paranoid now.

How we will know in the future whether a television isn't a telescreen as well ???

We need an idea to detect these before its shipped as standard on domestic TV's ! :-)
