Wave Sprints
Use the wave's movement on the beach to regulate your wind sprints | |
You run along the beach trying to keep as close as
possible
to
the constantly moving edge of the water as the waves
come in and out. Because of this in and out movement,
you're running a sine wave shaped path with a high
attack
angle (when the wave comes in fast) and low decay
angle.
(when the wave recedes) The attack angle is your sprint,
the decay is your cool down.
It's a fun way to get those sprint portions into your run
because when a wave comes in, you really have to run as
fast as you can to get away from it. Remember, you try
to
keep the same speed running along the beach and just
add
whatever speed is necessary to keep away from the wave
without loosing any forward speed. The waves are fairly
un-predictable too since as you move along the beach
they
come in from different angles and at different
frequencies.
If you're worried about looking weird, you could get a
dog to run
with you so it'll just look like you're playing
with it. Your dog will catch on to this wave chasing thing
very quickly since it'll stimulate it's "chase and run away"
response, which I think about 90% of it's brain is devoted
to.
It's a little like this

A sine wave is (by definition) symmetric. |
What you're describing is a modified sawtooth wavefom. Yes, the peaks and troughs are rounded, but definitely not a sine wave. Or a cosine wave, for that matter. |
// I think about 90% of it's brain is devoted to. // |
With unneutered male dogs, more than 90% of brain capacity is devoted to thinking about sex. |
Pretty much like humans, really. |
Like I said, it's a sine wave shaped (shaped
meaning
essentially) path. More accurately, these are
pulses with a randomly varied attack / decay
envelope.
What I'm describing is a modified sine wave as
much as a modified sawtooth waveform to give
the general idea with the least amount of
verbiage possible. It is an idea about running on
the beach after all. |
But you got what I was saying using the general
sine wave shape analogy. Using
pulse/attack/decay gets a little more wordy than
necessary. |

Six years a halfbaker, and you still get THAT wrong ? Amazing. |

Try a [Vernon] masterclass. |

Ah yes, seems like yesterday I was a bright eyed
young
inventor wanting to share my completely new and
original idea of "soft speed
bumps" with the world. |
My first (and not last) bone storm. Marked for
deletion my first time out. Not only was the idea
already thought of, it even had a cuter title than
mine:
"Custard
Filled Speed Bumps". |
My dreams of being a speed bump mogul were
dashed and I've been hooked ever since. Sucker
for punishment I guess. |
But I'm already doing this every weekend. At least until I run out of breath. And I gave up worrying about looking weird long ago - Now I worry that I don't look weird enough. |
This is missing about a dozen fake butterflies on long thin rigid wires protruding from your waistband extending just out of reach. |
Next spring when the water's up, I'm going to go across the
road and try this in the river. |
//But I'm already doing this every weekend. At

Are you really? It's cool to know I'm not the only
one. |
I claim priority for the name though. |
As you know these things really knock you out and
they're more fun that you're supposed to have
running. As long as you don't mind looking like
you're in a Benny Hill routine that is. |
Don't have to; I've got a mental Benny Hill app. |
