I really do want to purchase an e-reader, but the cost, while not prohibitive in a personal financial sense, is quite so in a value sense so far [1].

I'm of the sort that occasionally likes to go to a public park or outdoors restaurant, weather permitting and, barring incursions by friendly dogs, decent buskers, or interested women, read a book [2].

A decently waterproofed model would allow that even in inclement weather.[3]

---------------------

[1] still waiting for a full featured model with two paperback-sized pages (2x5"x7"), WiFi, USB, Internet, and a full range of non-proprietary standards... for under $100.

[2] Ironically of course, the practice lends itself quite well towards attracting friendly wasps, singing drunks, and women not at all.

[3] Actually I have a vision of myself getting a bit of cardio in while sitting in a deckchair under several feet of water breathing through a long snorkel... and reading a book so sensory deprivation doesn't interfere with time sense.

[+], also in the good old days back before things got stupid and suicidal, there was a waterproof computer, the Husky, which could be frozen and dropped in sewage without suffering harm. Even ordinary laptops could be dropped from head height onto concrete without being damaged. Everything should be like that now. I am gutted at the state of digital hardware nowadays.

Why would anyone freeze their laptop and then drop it into sewage?
MaxwellBuchanan, Aug 24 2011

...because fresh sewage is lukewarm and that is just plain disgusting.

[+]My daughter was telling me two days ago about kindle advertisements. She said that if they had a waterproof one for reading in the bathtub, she would learn to read English at a high level and buy an English version.

       Why not simply laminate it?
