An octopus is strong, adaptable, intelligent, trainable, and has an amazing ability to camouflage itself. As such they are terribly underused in war. There should be a way to adapt them to dry land, and once that's done their uses are innumerable.
-self-portable camouflage for tanks, tents, or soldiers
-fighting
companions capable of capturing and holding enemies
Well, that's it, really but they would be awesome at those tasks if we can only get them to survive out of water. If you attach an oxygenated water pack you're halfway there.

Well, they're aquatic molluscs ... their skin has no protection against moisture loss, little or no protection against UV, and no skeleton to maintain structure without the support of water. |
|
|
Having said that, cephalopods are intelligent, trainable, and have excellent eyesight. It's likely that they could drive, for example, a tank ... |
|
|
Teaching them to pilot an ROV would be more useful, though. No need for a pressure hull. They could get out and fix things if it broke down, too. |

Thinking that octopi can't attack on land... that's a sucker bet. [link] |

You could give them waterproof exoskeletons and use those
giant ones 30 metres across. |

That reminds me, [8th], where's that sick squid you owe me? |

We gave it to Sturton. He said he would take care of it. He was quite insistent . |

Some sort of traditional remedy, we suspect. He was certainly carrying a large jug of olive oil with garlic and herbs ... probably specialized aromatherapy ? |
|
|
I've no idea what the garlic and herbs were for, but the olive oil is concerning. |

Old joke: Why did the octopus join the battle? Because he
knew he was well-armed. |

Added joke: Why did the octopus flee the battle? Because
he remembered he was spineless. |
