Vote Decision Widget

How to entice the voters back - A web based vote decision tool

[Note - references apply to the UK, but the concept should apply anywhere] As I'm sure is common in many places, today's 'youth', me included, have little faith in the political system. The combination of the bickering between the main parties, and the fact that it is difficult to tell the differences between New Labour and the Conservatives make it all seem like a rather pointless exercise.

So I propose a Vote Decision Widget on the web to cut through all of the propoganda.

You would enter your age, location, salary, and then answer a set of questions on your views on healthcare, jobs, pensions, Iraq, etc. You would then generate a report containing what the major parties would offer you if you voted for them. i.e. higher or lower tax... and you would get a score for the match between your preferences and what the parties would do. The higher the score the more you should vote for that party.

As a side effect, the data collected by the system could be used to form future public policies.

I thought this was going to be a purely economic thing - which party would bring you the lowest tax burden, basically. Much happier knowing it includes common issues of the day as well. Might finally help kill off the Natural Law Yogic Flying Party, which can only be a good thing. [+]
