Viewer's Digest Condensed Musicals

I am at this moment being subjected to a musical movie playing in the background.
I like movies.
I like music...
...I just don't like it when live actors all start singing and dancing in sync when the only time it ever happens with real life people is in pre-planned flash-mobs. It's too much like a theater production and suspension of disbelief goes right out the window for me.
Generally these movies are of high quality and well written so well worth watching... but so are many novels I will never have the time to read.
Reader's Digest recognized this need and condensed these tomes down to a size which probably enticed many readers to be left wanting more and actually reading at least some of the original novels in their entirety.

I don't think that will work with me and musicals, but... for some folks it might in which case; it wouldn't affect the plot much, it would shrink a feature film down to an hour or so, and movies which wouldn't normally be seen by some would gain a currently nonexistent audience for these films.

P.T. Barnum never sang to the bearded lady! Ugh!

Dammit! Now I can't stop visualizing Wolverine singing about fresh creamery butter in a dance number.

Aaaauuurrrghhhhh...

From personal experience, kid's can't stop drinking in the condensed milk. Super sweet though.

What amazes me about opera is that paramedics haven't taken it to heart and learned a valuable lesson. If you're stabbed, you can stay alive pretty much as long as you keep singing.

Would that be "singing in the pain" instead of in the rain?

Are the films condensed by removing the songs or the non song parts? Or mixture? Or both, which would on balance be my preference.

//I just don't like it when live actors all start singing and dancing in sync when the only time it ever happens with real life people is in pre-planned flash-mobs// - you're thinking about this wrong - the solution is not to make musicals less musical, but to make real life *more* musical.

Tried that... just got looked at funny. I did however get an entire kitchen staff of a large restaurant singing the theme song to Gilligan's island once, but there were extenuating circumstances.

I just read the Wiki page plot synopsis.

This brings back memories of being a child, and wondering what was wrong with my family - we didn't periodically break into song and dance like everybody else did on the TV.
