Vertical Access Trains

Combining the elevator with the train. Sorta.

Okay. I'm gonna build some new trains. And a whole new load of stations. The stations have two platforms - one for people getting off, one for people getting on. Here's the rub: the platform for the passengers exiting the train is below (when the train is in situ the floor dissapears to be replaced by the platform floor which hydrolically lowers you to ground level). Naturally the platform for people entering the train is above - the floor of the train rises then lowers them to the floor of the train. A complex ticketing system will mean the spot people stand on the platform will be identicle to the spot in which they sit on the train.

maybe I'm not clear on the concept, but it appears this would be a complete change in passenger load every time the train stopped: what if I want to travel multiple stops but you only wish to travel one stop?

You'd get in the appropriate car.

We've done this idea for ferrys and planes, I guess trains is okay. Anybody want buses?
phoenix, Jun 29 2002

Buses would be cool. Sorry for the double bake. I'm new to these parts. In answer to your questions rbl, a complex ticketing ubercomputer would solve everything. Including war.

I think the bakery should implement a system which automatically deducts 10 votes from any idea that begins with the word, "okay."

Hydrolics? Indticle? Blimey Deeman, do you know any sub-editors? Nice idea, though. I find myself inexplicably drawn to those double-decker trains they have on the continent. One obvious flaw, though: tunnels would have to have higher ceilings, meaning they'd incoveniently poke out of the ground.
