The problem of retaining a deckchair in a busy prime seaside location has now been solved with The Venus Flytrap Deckchair

It's a simple idea that consists of a standard deckchair being modified to take on some of the characteristics of a Venus Fly trap.

To sit on it you have to force it into the open position using a handcrank to overcome the powerful spring that otherwise keeps it closed up.

Once fully deployed, a two digit code of choice keeps the deckchair safely locked open but primed for when you want to take a short break away, perhaps to enjoy a dip in the sea or the pool.

On sitting down again, the deckhair will expect the code to be inserted once more within a few minutes. Failure to do so triggers a release of the spring and the chair snaps shut like a Venus fly trap, only now containing the pesky deckchair usurper.

Super fiendish version features rapid chemical digestion and disposal of miscreant.

It's hard to hide mechanical latches given close enough observation.

If I were a deckchair usurper, I would tend to avoid the one with the overly-heavy built frame, large springs, and complicated mechanism that looks like it's designed to spring closed.
