Why not an addition to Drink Machines that crushes cans.
You would place the empty can in a receptacle in the side or front of the machine and it would crush the can and drop it into a recptacle in the machine.

And give you a rebate on the drink. |

The intent is good but most people just take the beverage and drink it elsewhere, they don't hang out at the machine and finish their drink there. If they had this can/bottle crusher next to the rubbish bins on the street we could recycle anytime. |

|
Hey, I'd use it! I'd even put the unopened can in it. |
|
|
This'd work despite [Machiavelli]'s good point in Japan because there are vending machines on almost every corner. Send them a letter. |

I agree with [machiavelli]. This idea is full of good intent but most people walk away from the machine to drink it and thus, a crusher within the machine would not be used. |

As a employee of a company that uses hundreds of thousands of vending machines (the red company), and I know that the major issue however is that there is no space inside the machine - it's all stock and fridge. It's not economical to take space from stock for rubbish ... so you'd have to make the machines bigger, which is also impractical - these machines would be too big to place. |

So, + for the idea, - for the feasibility. No score overall. |

jon, I think you just confirmed my suspicion that they mine the stuff :) |

Nearly every vending machine I use has a can-crusher right next to it. Same for trash cans. The can-crusher is of course the heel of my shoe. |

Entirely more useful (and mother-nature friendly!) than the 'soothing world music'-playing vending machines we have at work. They make you either want to go aaaaahhhoooom while you pick your low carb zero calorie health snack wrapped in wetland-choking nuke-o-foam wrap or just puke beforehand and get it overwith, depending on your tastes. |
