{With encouragement from [8th_of_7]}
Simply Bubblewrap with a pattern of mushroom-shaped
bumps
which would fit in between the spaces left between bumps.
With both surfaces similarly bumped, it should stick to
itself!

[+] This would, of course, have to be double-sided as well. |
|

Would make it easier to wrap items without recourse to sticky
tape. [+] |

I want to be velcro-bubble-wrapped with someone
else+. |

[0] Not sure this works, topologically speaking. Yes if there were only one mushroom on side A, it could squeeze in between four neighboring opposing mushrooms on side B. But if both sides are populated by shrooms equally spaced, I'm not sure you could squeeze all those suckers in there at once without violating some law of nature. |

[squeaketh] I'm fairly sure this does work if the
materials are sufficiently compliant (air is quite
compressible.) Kind of like a
zipper. I'll look for a link. |

Cool. I wanted to vote twice on Lego bubble wrap but I'll settle on getting to vote on this as well. |

Mushroom shapes will work depending on cap and stem diameters. Inverted pyramid shapes would work well too. |

The sound of a new addiction. |

Wow. Great idea, totally patentable and might make millions of bucks. |

Csea, just checked your profile to see what kind of guy comes up with a great idea like this. Co-inventor of the Dolby Digital Film Sound format? Holy moly. And what a shock, from the Bay Area, Marin no less. A Lucas Ranch alumni perhaps? |

[dr.R] Thanks for your kind comments. No, never
worked for Lucas, though have been to the ranch
several times. |

I presume the cost effectiveness of bubble wrap weighs heavily on the facile nature of making those nauseatingly simple bubbles. Of course, cost matters nil in these parts. + |

Going through old csea posts... wow! |

This is abso-friggin-lutely brilliant. Probably one of the best
ideas to ever appear on the HB. |
|
|
Unfortunately I already bunned it a long time ago. |
