Javelin throwing. Taking a big pointy stick, running to a line, and throwing the big pointy stick. That is basically javelin throwing. Problem is, you can only throw it so far.

Racing. Going around in a circle (usually, sometimes it is a non-closed-end course), trying to keep as high of an average speed as possible.

Vehicular Javelin Throwing Race. Multiple targets, multiple laps, and multiple categories (motorbikes, ATVs, Jeeps, and convertibles).

2-man teams, one person drives, the other person throws the javelins at targets while either sitting behind (ATVs and motorbikes) or while standing in the back (for convertibles and Jeeps). Each thrower gets 5 javelins for each lap, for the five targets that are set up. Each team has a color (red, green, blue, and yellow) and throw javelins with corresponging-color-bands, and each driver drives the same colored vehicle. The extra velocity and changing vectors pose new things to adapt to.

Not only is speed considered in the final outcome, but also accuracy.

Throwing javelins at other throwers is a penalty, unless it isn't, in which case the throwers will have been wearing armor.

Annotation:

The relative merit of lap time vs. javelin accuracy would need to be carefully weighted.

Otherwise people would just ditch the javelins and drive really fast.

The opposite scenario could also apply.

I suspect the sport would decend into one or the other.

Can't we just have a sport where you throw cars?

[DrCurry]: I saw an article on TV a few years (7 or 8) ago about a couple of guys who built a massive trebuchet, and used it to fling old cars around their farm -they were getting up to a hundred metres or more, if I remember rightly. One of the maddest things I've ever seen!

Maybe perhaps a time penalty for distance from center of each target?

Such as add 1 second for each foot away from the bullseye for each target?

I do agree that it would have to be weighed carefully, but I imagine the rules would be something like the skeet event in Olympics (skiing and shooting combined)

This is such an AWESOME idea. It freakin' rocks.

But I think it would be better if it didn't involve teams. It would be a better challenge if you had to drive the car, throw the javelin, and get another one, all without crashing.

       I would totally play.

       I would partially play.

//It would be a better challenge if you had to drive the car, throw the javelin, and get another one, all without crashing.// Or if your *opponent* drove the car, while you threw. That would encourage some cra-Z driving!
