Usable surfaces for robots

 Why are mobile robots not coverered with corkboard or Post-It notes?

The robots in current production - I'm thinking particular of Pepper, which is used as a sort of host at some conferences - are all covered with shiny plastic shells. Since they're supposed to be moving around anyway, why not cover them with a more useful surface or make them a more useful shape? Why, for example, shouldn't Pepper be a dual-purpose host and dressmaker's dummy? Or covered with corkboard so people can pin notes and information to its outside for the benefit of others encountering it? Or padded fabric (ditto). Or if it *must* be shiny plastic, provide a place to hold Post-It pads so people can stick notes to them. Why must the outsides be so useless?

       It is (surprisingly) possible to staple-gun a note to the back of a person wearing light clothing. What is even more remarkable is that if you then tell them you have staple gunned a piece of paper to their back, they will assume that you are joking and that there were no staples in the staple gun, until they try tugging at their shirt.

       Adding notes to the body of a robot will distract people from interacting with the robot. They'll think the notes are tips on how to interact with the robot, left by previous humans who were unsatisfied with the robot's interactions, and will therefore not interact with the robot in a natural way.
