Let's say someone gives me a Christmas present I really don't want - the "Men Are From Mars; Women Are From Venus Board Game", for example. Depending on who gave it to me, I may not be able to say "This is crap, have you still got the receipt?". However, there is probably someone out there who has bought
this for themselves or for someone else, knowing that they will love it. This idea is for some kind of auction site, or an eBay category, in which receipts for items or the ability to return items can be auctioned. You might, for example, pay 5% of the purchase price for the ability to return an item and get a full refund.
This would work very well for returning stuff to sites like Amazon, which allows the original purchaser to generate return labels based on their original order. This return label could then be emailed to you - the person buying the 'return service' - who would send off the item to Amazon. The refund would get sent from Amazon to the original purchaser, who would then send it (minus 5%) via PayPal to you.

There's a lot of trust involved there, not to mention the fact that the sellers would be unhappy with people 'returning' items that were never bought from them in the first place. When we get stuff we don't want we just drop it off at the nearest charity/thrift store and hope it finds a good home and raises a little money for a good cause. |
- no more trust involved than in any other eBay-like transaction |
The only way this would work is if the person bought the item with cash, as payment by credit or savings card would show up on the receipt and subsequently be sent to the card owner. |

What if it worked like a actual trading service where you can trade your peice of crap present to someone else online with something you wanted, using a paypal like service. |

[lions8] ha ha [froglet] - no, the money is sent to the original purchaser who deducts the fee for selling the return 'privilege' and sends on the remainder. |

This is eBay; with receipts. Kind of like, "I don't have the purchase voucher, but I have the S&H stamps to prove I bought it. |
