Imagine if you will that both your shoes had the same construction, there is no left - there is no right; only the shoe.
The same shoe fits the left foot as fits the right foot, with a circular construction around the toes to avoid the left or right preference.
Uni-Shoes would not be sold in
pairs, they'd be sold individually. Lose a shoe, go and buy another one. Mix and match different styles on different feet... They could even have modular soles and inners for more versatility and to avoid those expensive trips to the cobbler.
Lowers the manufacturing cost too.
Left=Right, see around bullet #6

Suits me down to the ground (well, on one leg only. Dwom to knee height on the other). |

This could be easily achieved using toe inserts. In fact, for children, space filling inserts makes sense, where the little devils are outgrowing their shoes every week. |

I'm afraid they'd be cumbersome. Design features that allow orthopedic support to either foot I'd imagine would result in a rather large shoe. |

Admittedly I had not considered the arch of the foot or the curvature of the sole. How about an adaptive polyfoam filling that moulded itself to the shape of each foot? The filling would revert when you remove your foot. |

Flipflops could easily be modified to be the unishoe. Two perforations would be in the sole, with the strapholder put in one or other depending on the foot for use. No worries about arches etc etc. |

Just like the Converse Allstars from the days of old. |

Couldn't work for a shoe with an arch. But sock shoes are already unifoot, as it were, so expand on those. |

I've seen slippers like this. Still sold in pairs, though. |
