UnFaires

an unconferencey alternative to proprietary builder/crafts events and spaces

This alternative to proprietary events and spaces like Maker Faire and Tech Shop would be held or housed in library environments, and planned and hosted by the disability community, to promote innovation related to accessibility and adaptive technologies. This would be about access rather than education, so not schools or higher ed. It could probably also have - on purpose - no name, and just be a disability-oriented experiential event/space, to highlight the cross-linguistic nature of the events and spaces.

I think you're overloading the function of a library when you actually mean "a space that's already been paid for". For that purpose schools (after hours) and churches are just as connable, and there are normal rental halls and office/store spaces.

Wouldn't you still want Maker Faire/ Tech Shop resources/people? It might be better to work from the inside to get the things changed that you need. A new setup is going to cost even if the space is cheap.

I was ready for more bizzarity from the good JHC and am still a little concerned that I do not detect that piquant JHC flavor in this idea. Which seems like an excellent and in earnest idea and where one would see some very cool stuff.

       Misread title as UnFairies. Disappointed.
