Incidentally, why isn't "spacecraft" another word for "interior design"?

This is a website (at least its main interface is) that is at its core a database of statistics. Any statistic available can be included, but for starters those statistics about occupation, life expectancy, causes of death, winning the lottery, getting married/divorced and others of the like will be available perhaps.

So what makes this site different? Say you are a new parent, and you want to find out what the chances are of your child becoming a doctor. Or becoming a senator, then being assassinated. Or getting married before hitting 18 years old. The site can use established statistical functions to calculate any combination of the available statistics. So for example, you could calculate the approximate number of 1-armed plumbers in the world. Named Fred. or some other strange combination!

This is of course a candid website, not meant to be taken seriously. It goes along the lines of that website that predicted your exact date of death, but with a little more substance and math.

Statistics can be volunteered by users, sort of like a wiki system.

This is a very half-baked idea, comments would be appreciated, and of course, notification if it's been done before! ^^

A Book, but with only 288 probabilities. What is the chance that it has the one you are looking for? http://www.amazon.c...d=1204088765&sr=1-3

So can it tell me the chances of being picked up by a girl I met at a party after being kicked out as airlock of a Vogon Constructor ship?

This is just a Delphi Oracle for the machine age - statistics are no more reliable than the gods in foretelling the future. -

//notification if it's been done before!// Would you prefer the answer: "probably"?

87% of all statistics are bollocks.

And the other 14% are inaccurate.

which is why I tried to stress that this is a candid resource, mostly for idle curiosity. :)

And statistics aren't so much bollocks..there's a reason why it's used so much in business

most countries run a census which publishes most of the data. The more obscure facts would be too expensive to research.

//statistics are no more reliable than the gods in foretelling the future.// Really, Dr. Curry? This, of course, means you believe in very powerful gods. Which is surprising, I might add.

So this isn't about keeping track of scoring and such in the flying disc sport?
Canuck, Feb 27 2008

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada...any chances or statistics I want to know about iare readily available at the sports books in the casinos....especially if I want to bet on it. also, online betting parlors have excellent statistical reporting....though, admittedly, probably not on Betty Ann or Sarah Lou getting prego before getting married of Joshuah's bass boat getting hit by a river barge before he catches that ol'"Big Swampy" catfish he's been tryin' for all his life..

Five (traditional) dice are thrown together. What is the probability that *at least two* of them will show 1's?

What about if they are d10s, and you throw 12 of them?

       Show your working.
