For the suicidally stupid.

A curry or chilli dish which derives its extreme "hotness" not from the use of conventional flavourings but from the deliberate inclusion of trace quantities of irritant chemical weapons.

How does this differ from fugu, apart from causing a burning, rather than a numb sensation?

Edit: I just noticed the title of this category. Evidently We are Not Amused.

       Bun.

I'm all for test-of-manhood foods. I remember a period a few years ago when I was doing a lot of short camping/hunting trips with 3 friends. 2 of those, who were "new" to the group, weren't into the habit of being good camping mates, ie didn't clean their share and wouldn't cook at all. So my mate and I got into the habit of cooking curries hotter and hotter and putting chilli into just about everything - to the point where it was hardly bearable. Just good rugged food for my mate and I but the other two winged non-stop until it became clear to them that if they didn't like it, they were welcome to cook less spicy food themselves. The funny part was how long this took to realise.

Anyhoo, the process would have been shorter with the addition of some low-level nerve agents.

Does the state of Uber Macho necessitate discomfort? Are the macho such because they are impervious? Is it macho to tolerate inferior food? Would it not be macho to make chili delicious for all with a minimum of fussing? Is the Iron Chef not macho?

Custard, your story reminds me of the joke about the moose poop. Let me see if I can link it.

Sort of reverse-baked. Aside from pepper sprays, some non-lethal weapons shoot capsaicin, the active component of chili peppers, in paintball pellets. One of those on the chest will fill the perp's head with agony. One of those in the chili should do the same.

That moose poop pie punchline is word-for-word in an Ozarks story, too.
