Two person crash helmet.
I bought a bluetooth intercom so I could talk to my
passenger but it was difficult to reliably pair the devices,
the controls were clunky and one of the headsets failed. I
remember an acoustic intercom that used rubber tubes but
I think the company might be out of
business.
So I propose a two person crash helmet. It would look
something like a small upside-down bath but some sort of
stylish graphics could make it less stylistically challenged.
It would have a normal visor at the front for the rider and
side windows for the passenger. I like to think you could
hold a relaxed conversation in a cocoon of still, quiet air,
maybe listen to some calming music and share happy
moments together. There could be enough space between
the wearer's heads for drinks and snacks. There could also
be aerodynamic advantages.
In case of an accident I suppose it might be better not to
be joined to your riding partner by the head so maybe
some explosive bolts could separate the two halves.
The same idea would also be great for tandem cyclists and
being linked at the head could help captain and stoker to
synchronise pedalling and body dynamics.
The idea would work for any vigorous activity where two
(or more!) people participate one behind the other
although I can't really think of any. Oh - bobsleigh?

For added stability, you could fix the helmet onto
the frame of the bike, and for convenience, have
hinged segments allowing entrance and exit. This
might make the helmet somewhat bulky, so you could
always widen the footprint of the bike, perhaps by
arranging another pair of wheels, in alignment with
the first two, and slinging the helmet between both
sets of wheels. This further extends the number of
simultaneous users to a 2x2 configuration. I'm sure
something like this could really catch on. |

one helmet to the side of another. |

The helmets would be joined by a tube of air, but
during a crash there would be a easy disconnection. |

It would also reduce the amount of unexpected
hickeys, a significant problem even zen's
comprehensive solution does not address. |

ETA: What I was thinking about on the 15th but forgot to say on the
17th is that, in a crash, you want your helmet to be as smooth and
slippery as possible. If it catches on something on the ground, that
applies a force to your neck. So even splitting in two in a crash would
probably leave a bunch of deviation from a spheroid, on the back of
the head for the front rider and on the front of the head for the back
rider. Maybe it can be made as two smooth, spheroidal helmets that
are joined by a third segment that gets blown off? |

Nice. The detachment points, of the connecting tear-drop, can be lower/ indented into the helmet surface. A ski binding like action giving two independent helmets in an abnormal situations. |

Might even use bone conduction sound transfer and stick this teardrop to standard helmets. |
