Trumpet Racing

First to the bell-end is a donger!

Contestants stand in a line, each holds a standard valved orchestral trumpet with the bell pointing upwards.

A small ball bearing is balanced on the mouthpiece shank and inserted into the leadpipe.

In front of each contestant is a funnel at knee height, and below the funnel a bell, of a different pitch for each.

On the word “trumpets away!”, the first contestant to get their ball bearing out of the bell end and down the funnel to ding their bell is the winner!

For subsequent rounds the judges can issue sticky tape to fix some of the valves in the down position.

I had not thought of blowing to propel the ball bearing. I wonder if that would be faster or slower than turning the trumpet end over end?

//the first contestant to get their ball bearing out of the bell end and down the funnel to ding their bell is the winner!// I don't think anyone could argue with that.

An advanced version could use a double French horn (F/Bb) and require transiting all the tubes. [+]

//double French horn// eight bearings, try to get one into each tuning slide.

That shouldn’t be too difficult as you can use the valves to close off certain sections of tube I would have thought.
