Tree farm, or small stand next to a forest. Sign reads either "Truffle Map! Pick your own truffles, $20 each!" or "Truffle Map! $50 map, Free truffle and mushroom identification!" (for each business model, respectively).

I'd love to learn to find wild mushrooms and truffles, and I live in a truffle-producing region. The problem is, I have no idea where to start looking and would be afraid to eat whatever I find anyway. Since truffles and mushrooms grow from the same trees over and over, it should be possible for a professional truffler to make a nice map to sell to us want-to-be trufflers.

Dog or pig rental extra.

Electronic noses do exist, but they don't yet compare to a dog's nose. Plus, dogs are cheaper and more cuddly.

[World]I'll show you what to pick! - And you can be sure it won't leave you with a damaged nervous-system, or a wrecked digestive tract. (I'm trying to put people off, by the way...So that they don't discover my secret patches). :)

[Treon] Do please make sure and let us know if you master growing truffles in captivity.

Careful, [Dub], I might take you up on that. I've been meaning to plan a European vacation some time, and wondering through the woods looking for truffles sounds like a fun excursion.
