Toroidal vinyl record player

In this record player, the recording grooves are on the inside of a toroid. The stylus pickup is permanently installed inside the toroid, powered by magnetic induction, with the audio signal being relayed to the amplifier through the structure of the "record" using a split transformer similar to the rotary transformers used in videotape recorders.

Since the toroid is sealed, the groves never need cleaning as no dust can enter.

//no dust can enter// although many small fragments of vinyl will accumulate as the pickup rattles around inside during shipping.

The pickup does not 'rattle round". It's attached to a moveable carrier with wheels that press against the inner surface of the torus.

So, it's not meant to rattle? Do you have a returns department?
MaxwellBuchanan, Sep 30 2019

Yes, the details are on the stylus mount.

Whatever. We'll just send it back to the same place we sent that self-assembly dining table. It never did.
