Some times it can be hard trying to give visiting relatives or out-of-town friends directions to somewhere of interest, or importance. Especially if you live in some hard to find apartment complex on the South side of town. Well, if you have the need to give directions, or impress some party guests,
just have them look at their feet. Topographical carpet is a scaled-down topographical map for your flooring. Soft foam raised hills, valleys, rivers, mountains other accurately scaled landmasses compliment your trip to the kitchen, and liven-up your family reunions. Of course, depending on how much floor space you have to work with, maps of larger areas and metropolitan expanses would have to be condensed, and compensated for. In addition, the flooring would be oriented North for accuracy and trivia value. Completely high-traffic safe, and stain resistant, your pets will love bedding-down in the popular San Andreas Fault region, or your local riverbed, accurately mapped out on your plush, floor-bound goodness.
If you live in Texas...

Yet another way to bring your super-monster fantasies come true. |

Person1: How did you hurt your arm?
Person2: I went into the kitchen for a midnight snack and tripped over Mt. Rainer. |

That damn cat's crapped in the
Grand Canyon again. |

Pour honey into all the highways, and you can have a road map made entirely out of ants. |
|
|
Not recomended for residents of the Grand Canyon area. |

... and would be quite boring for residents of East Anglia or possibly most of Holland. |

... and very wet for inhabitants of coral atolls. |

Hey this is neat. Didn't see it before.
Certainly better than a cruddy old pizza.

This calls for a new vacuum cleaner design. |

Hrm. A 4x4 vaccum, perhaps? With first-person POV operation. Transmit video signal to TV. Control via video game console, or the like. |

Floors are highly underutilized as display surfaces. Even a projector on the ceiling tied into mapquest would be useful. Although I'd love to tie your topographical map to seismometers and watch earthquakes change the shape of my living room in real time. |

<mapping pedant> A topographical map is a flat map that depicts topography through the use of contour lines. What is described here //Soft foam raised hills// would be more properly described as a relief map. </mapping pedant> |

Map trivia: Anyone who has lived in the lower peninsula of Michigan knows that the palm of the right hand is a pretty good representation of it. I used to live below the little finger, right at the edge of the widest part of the palm. |

This reminds me of FarmerJohn's recursive railway yard idea. You could have a miniature representation of your house, inside which is ... - wait! Why are there ripples in my glass of water? |

Next up: a vacuum attachment designed specifically for topigraphical carpets. |

I would love to play marbles on this, too. |

Glad this was bumped - it's one of my favorites! |
