Why sit in a seat at the theatres when you can lay down

My idea is simple and possible to do and very practicle, have a big room with padded flooring and little bean bags everywhere and a big screen on the top of the cieling that the movie is projected on to and then a regular screen on each of the 3 rear walls, and have rear projection screens. At the movies i find it very uncomfortable sitting in a seat for 2-3 hours, as well it maybe more fun for dates and stuff to be laying on the floor. As for the popcorn mess, here is a new idea it is called put trash cans in the theatre so people dont throw things on the floor. This wold also increase people's responsibility, no one wants to lay on a floor filled with popcorn so people wont leave stuff all over the place. You could even bring in your own chairs to the movie theatre and it could be like a picnic and they could have waiters bring you hot dogs while you are watching the movie, and half handheld call and ordering devices that are text activiated.

With all those screens, how would you align the surround-sound?

Well I guess we could just have only the top screen or headphones

+ for a more casual movie theatre that isn't some tiny converted apartment seating 12 people.

How does the litter-conscious popcorn bag thrower-out get to the "garbage cans placed in the theater" without disrupting the views of, or trodding upon, the other patrons who are quietly lying down all over the floor?
phundug, Dec 03 2003

If they're looking up, and not moving around, there's no way out intrepid trash-thrower-outer is going to come between their eyes and the screen unless he steps on their head and that's a whole 'nother bag of problems. I like the idea.

You want the movie to be interrupted by servers taking orders? You want people to bring their own chairs or lie on the floor?? Stay home, watch Die Hard on your couch, and order a pizza.

what's wrong with you people? Joe's got a great idea! I have been in a couple non-traditional movie theatres, and they are quite refreshing. The kind with a bar and smoking make for great comedy watching.

I think having a horizontal screen on the ceiling might be uncomfortable, though. maybe some angle in between, and craftmatic adjustable beds.

I agree with changokun. This is pretty similar to my idea to have rentable theaters with couches for parties. If you don't like an idea like this, you're a little too uptight. Take it down a few notches.
