Toast Day

A foolish new holiday related to toast.

I declare April 1st to be Worldwide Toast Day.

If you see a piece of toast on this day, tell it how much you care. Give it a hug. Share your love.

The best part is that whenever you celebrate Toast Day, people will assume it's an April Fool's joke. But the joke's on them, because they're letting their cynicism separate them from a quality toast-laden experience.

Everyday is toast day in my world. Current favorite topping. Quality butter and a dusting of black pepper.
sufc, Apr 02 2003

No, no, no! Today and every day is sambwich day. Have a sambwich!
sambwiches, Apr 02 2003

I'm partial to apple jelly myself. The truly wonderful thing about toast is the sheer variety inherent in such a substance. For instance, some breads, such as rye look quite the same once toasted, yet the crunchiness and flavor have been enhanced. Other breads, such as "wonderbread" are all together transformed, dare I say carbonized by this experience. To each his own. Nevertheless, your idea with the butter and pepper is fascinating. I think I'll try this.
Madcat, Apr 02 2003

       Will a toasted sambwich do?.
In my poorer days I have been known to do a 3 course meal consisting of toast with various toppings.
sufc, Apr 02 2003

Well you know, you have to make an effort.
sufc, Apr 02 2003

toasted will do fine, sufc. Right now I'm getting through the days on a couple of lightly toasted barms with a bit of cheese and branston pickle every night about 3am. Never get tired of them :)
sambwiches, Apr 02 2003

Cheese and Branston is in my top 5 sambwiches.
sufc, Apr 02 2003

As it should be, my friend. As it should be.
sambwiches, Apr 02 2003

funnily enough, I could have sworn we did this before.
po, Apr 02 2003

Shame this wasn't posted on March 31st. A whole year without toast. Sheesh.
egbert, Apr 02 2003

Ha! Has anyone tried toasted, sliced croissant?
FarmerJohn, Apr 02 2003

I guess if I can have a day (see link), so can toast.
goober, Apr 02 2003

       Arrosas dindon avec fromage! Mmmm.
Shz, Apr 02 2003

A toast...to toast! I love toast, too. When I feel nauseous, I turn to toast and tea for help and toast has never yet let me down. It's a warm, crispy friend.

Here's one my parents taught me: toast with cottage cheese and sliced tomato on top. Also good with toasted English Muffins, but we're talking toast here.
XSarenkaX, Apr 02 2003

This doesn't include melba toast does it?
notme, Apr 02 2003

I think it should. What does it matter who toasted it? It's toast.
XSarenkaX, Apr 02 2003

Mexican treat for toast day: fried, mashed beans with melted "Oaxaca" cheese and a good, thick layer of green salsa... buenísimo!
Pericles, Apr 02 2003

       // Oaxaca //

How do you pronounce that word? I can never get it right. It looks like it should be pronounced "wa-HA-ka". Is that right?
waugsqueke, Apr 02 2003

Yes, wa-ha-ka is right. I doubt you can find that cheese anywhere outside Mexico, but it is certainly a good enough excuse to come to this beautiful land of chipotles (my favorites bliss!), gorgeous beaches and cheap EVERYTHING.

Back to the toast... you can also use Panela cheese. It is lighter, cheaper and probably you can find it packed at some stores worldwide.
Pericles, Apr 02 2003

Favs around the Steele household: cinnamon sugar, or cottage cheese and peaches with a dust of cinnamon on top. Then throw the whole thing into a toaster oven for 2 minutes.
RayfordSteele, Apr 02 2003

I declare *every* day a Toast Day, especially around breakfast time.
DrCurry, Apr 02 2003

Sounds like Talky Toaster from Red Dwarf to me...
Supercruiser, Apr 02 2003

Does anyone remember Powdered Toast Man from "Ren & Stimpy"?
XSarenkaX, Apr 03 2003

       But of course.

If it makes you feel better despite having missed Toast Day this year, I declared it "Pan-Galactic Toast Week" in the forum where I first came up with this idea. So relax, you've got a while yet to enjoy your toast.

s/he keesp it up and s/he'll eb toast soon.
k_sra, Feb 06 2004

This whole discussion reminds me of the Talkie-Toaster (patent pending) from Red Dwarf,

Strawberry jam on toast, dipped in tea. Yum.
Cunninglinguist, Aug 01 2004

[Jutta] as 'w' has declared tomorrow toast day (see link), could we award toast instead of croissants for that one day? I'm off to toast some Turkish sesame bread and find the honey.
