When cycling or backpacking long distances I have found that Gatorade and similar sports drinks have remarkable restorative properties, but for maximum effectiveness one needs to drink the stuff at least once per hour. I prefer to drink water while I exercise for the following reasons:
-Water doesnt
taste like crap
-Water doesnt make a sticky mess
-You can pour water on your head, and it still doesnt make a sticky mess
As an alternative to liquid Gatorade, I propose Time-release Gatorade (or Gatorcustard). This custard-like food contains millions of spheres (similar to the spheres in time-release drugs) packed with carbohydrates and electrolytes. After consumption, the spheres dissolve and release their nutrients slowly over a period of 5 to 6 hours. A few spoonfuls of the stuff at breakfast and lunch, combined with regular drinks of water throughout the day will keep you constantly fueled, hydrated and electrolytic*.
*Or should that be electrocuted?

A + for novel use of custard. See also link for feasibility. |

//*Or should that be electrocuted?// Since we are talking about electrolytes I think the correct term would be electrolyzed, but that could still be painful. |

Baked in the form of lentils, soyabeans etc. All you need to do is eat something with a low glycemic index and salt in it = Slow burn carbos and electrolytes.
Pulses and spuds also provide the minerals that you need to replace without them being dyed blue, brand named and sold in trendy bottles. |
