I don't have a problem with hunting for food. I do have a problem with hunting for trophies, except where it's ecologically beneficial. Some groups have taken to sawing off animals horns and tusks to prevent poaching. I propose a different approach for those animals which should benefit from this treatment.
The animals should be captured and their horns stained an ugly puce, green, or something else no one wants on their wall. It also may help to find screws that can be inserted into the dead parts of the horns, just kind of sticking out there and being ugly.

I admire the idea, but couldn't they just be painted, screws
removed, that sort of thing? |
I guess hunters would obviously go after ones that weren't
uglied up first though. |
I'll bun this if you add that the mechanism is a deer feeder
that automatically spray paints the horns when they eat out of
it. Actually you could go all out and have it spray some kind of
plastic that globs all over the horns and can't be removed
without massive amounts of work. |
Now the problem with this is supposedly hunters actually help
deer populations and it's pretty well regulated. Haven't looked
into it, but as counter intuitive as that sounds there might be
something to it. |
Deer don't have horns, they have antlers |
And they shed their antlers every year |
And as [DrR] says deer are a pest who reproduce faster than the food supply can sustain them, so the hunters cull selectively to keep the population at sustainable healthy levels. |
Also many people like to admire the beauty of the living animals |
Maybe make them sparkly. Everybody would be happy with
sparkly deer horns. I mean antlers. |
Do the same with rino antlers as well. Maybe even sparkle up
those big long elephant teeth. |

I'm talking about republicans in name only. (Yea, that's the
ticket. Wait, did I write that or just think it?) |

I'm certain I posted a rhino horn idea in the last
year but the search ideas function on the
halfbakery isn't working. Bakesperson help! Found
it (link) but search still not working. Database
errors being returned as Bad Gateways. (whatever
that is) |
Internal error
overflow error -- database too large |
If the HalfBakery is now officially too large, do we have to start deleting things? Do we delete idea at a time, or user at a time? Any volunteers to go first? |
I'm painting all my ideas blue to stop them getting culled. |
All the capital letters must be deleted, then it will
be fine again. Each person must edit all their own
postings and annotations to make this change.
Poclmoc you must also offer yourself as a human
sacrifice that somehow involves lots of biscuit tins
and stale milk. |

I was thinking that a lot of deer hunting is regulated where
there's a season to hunt after the deer mate. Most people
hunt for food and don't care about the antlers. They freeze
the deer meat to last them all year. There are plenty of horns
to be had anyways from deer hunters. They hunt deer because
it's cheap and the meat doesn't have as much grease. If you
paint the deer's antlers a bright orange, he's more likely to be
seen, shot, and eaten. |
Yes I am very happy for user [Poclmoc] to have their ideas deleted and for them to suffer other strange actions as outlined above. |
I find trophy deerheads a bit tacky, but to each their own. |
Although deer are very cute, the other day after a
snowstorm they ate most of my exotic shrubbery in
my yard! I want to hate them right now and wish
they were all ugly! |
If we painted them to look like rioters are they more likely or
less likely to be shot? |
