Expensive, difficult, slightly dangerous, not particularly effective... I'm on a roll.

Man is focusing vast resources on the creation of super batteries for vehicles of all types. For things like hummingbird sized UAVs, use hummingbird style charging stations - flowers. Command the device to sense, seek and feed from sugar sources via image recognition, and the unmanned device could run indefinitely as long as the feeding stations, natural or manmade, were available. Seeds for the best types of sugar sources would be air-dropped by UAVs. More flowers would be planted and the beauty the of the landscape increased.

I like the idea of thousand silicon-blue hummingbirds glinting over my thicket of nightshade. [+]

I like it (hence the bun) even though I originally read it as hummingbird SUV's which would obviously be a bit more challenging and need bigger flowers.

Sadly, I could see this resulting in overcompetition for the hummingbirds.

I could see hummingbird SUVs catch on amongst the younger hummingbird generation, looking for more bling to attract mates...
