The marriage saver
To prevent your significant other from leaving you since all you do is play internet games all the time | |
This would only work for games with a monthly charge (e.g. Everquest, World of Warcraft), but add an option to send your significant other either flowers (for women) or beer and a pizza (for men) once a month. Other options might include special "quests" to remember your anniversary, take out the trash,
feed the kids, not get fired from your job, etc.
Alternatively, the game could become a sort of intermediary between you and your spouse, where they could enter tasks for you to do, and you would receive in-game rewards for completing them, or suffer penalties for failure...
Not just your marriage is in danger...

Plenty of web sites now exist to do this very thing (send gifts on a regular basis), even if they're not tied into role playing sites. Perhaps if you weren't stuck on the computer all day long, you'd've seen the ads... |

I like the idea of bringing the outside
world into a game but, if a couple have
an
asymmetric enough relationship for this
idea to work then I worry about their
future. Then again, for kids and parents
(who have an asymmetric relationship
anyway)

"Tiny?" There are a growing number of people who make their livings in the online game world. I don't think that the virtual world will remain tiny, or imaginary, for long. I believe it will become an economic and tangible entity perhaps exceeding our real world in terms of interaction, business, pleasure, learning and life in general. |

And that is a truly frightening thought. I have noted before that the fundamental flaw in the Matrix II & III scripts is that it should have turned out that the humans *chose* their total immersion. |

Frightening? Why? That seems a fear of fear. Society is always changing and this seems as natural a part of progression as much of history. |

Never been afraid of the future, but I am concerned that if we spend too much time immersed in virtuality, we won't ever come up for air (as noted, see under Matrix). Or we'll all get swept into aggressive hegemonizing entities (see under Borg, but without the heavy machinery). |

Games have always been useful in allowing us to experiment with things we cannot do in real life, and these games allows us to do it with much greater sophistication. It just seems to me that if they replace reality rather than hold a mirror to it, they cease to be relevant. Maybe I'm giving them more credit than they're due. I'm with the Doctor on this one. |

I totally love this idea! Whats all the fuss. I don't play the games anymore but heck yeah! Lets put the romance thing back into role playing/ time wasting. This is where the whole romance thing was always meant to be anyway isn't it ? SUPER BUN for you. |
