Does it need much explanation - a show which profiles the ultimate in nerdery - from the computer geeks to the gamers, to the roleplayers, Star Trek fans, model railroaders, etc.
Each week would have a different theme, with an award for the most nerdy. Perhaps some sort of competitive nerd-off within
each category.
The end of the season would be a nerd-spectacular featuring all the top geeks, and public voting for the title of "King Nerd", "Geek of the Universe" or something. The award is a t-shirt of course.

no, no, no, no, no. fewer reality shows.
one based on nerds does not get over
the fundamental failing of reality shows,
which is, them pretending to actually be
reality. |
|
|
this however, would be better
catagorized as a game show. if you
want an example of what it could be
like, there was a show on tech tv a
handful of years ago. something
supergeek i think. it had supergeeks
who would compete with contestants on
their level of geekdom, at which point
the winner would become the new
supergeek for that category. it made the
geeks look like socially inept losers,
which isn't fair because they were not a
good example of the average. |

sorry, but you reminded me of this
show, so i must bone. |

The authoritative 'Jargon File' distinguishes between nerds and geeks. One way of defining the difference is to say that nerdiness approximates to the medical condition Asperger Syndrome, whereas geekiness approximates more to Attention Deficit Disorder. |
|
|
So, if you believe in 'winners and losers' (a bad idea in my opinion), then, in this definition, nerds really are socially inept losers whereas geeks are not. |
|
|
Nerds, of course, should be celebrated, but reality TV is probably the least appropriate medium on Earth for doing this. Personally, I've used a website. <muffled blowing of own trumpet> |
|
|
Pardon me for interchanging Geek and Nerd freely, and I appreciate the allucidation of the finer points of differentiation. I don't know why, but I find any response at all that anyone makes to this idea amusing. |
|
|
I wonder if "idea bakers" could be a category on this show. And FYI, my point was not to show geeks as socially inept losers, but to celebrate ourselves as socially inept losers. |
|
|
but it's the society that's inept, not the
losers. |

You guys do know who you're typing to, don't you? This is [UnaBubba]- Master of All Things Word, Vocabulary Guru Supreme, Head Honcho of Confabulation and Honorary Member of the Lexiconers of the Four Corners of the Earth. Why would he need a dictionary indeed? |

I find that mine fall apart at the binding after only a few blows. |

Being socially inept, and spending my free time at the computer, I do admire those 'losers' who have the skill to chat up the dames. |
|

So, [phlish]'s scoring might be off if you use different critera. |

[Unabubba] *is* the dictionary. |

OK, folks, this isn't the UnaBubba Fan Club. Wipe that brown stuff off your noses and get back to work. |

Does the Northern Electric Research & Development company not still owns the rights to the acronym NERD? We might have to deal with them over licensing issues, unless the family of Theodor Geisel has something to say as well. |

Unabubba - geek=circus performer, bites heads off chickens. |

I know about W.C. Minor and Broadmoor. Do I get a t-shirt? |

Phish - where does the Geek Squad stand then in your interesting matrix of geekdom? |
|
|
[trekbody], corporate sellouts who
compound the idea of a geek as a socially
inept loser, even if he can fix your
computer. |
|
|
Sounds reasonable tcarson. Consider my use of the word Geek corrected. |
