There is a fine article in the today's Guardian about Loch Ness (link). I believe this article highlights the need for a new educational institution to be established in this most strange and exciting location.

The Loch Ness University will only offer study in one subject: monsters.
Students will investigate all aspects of monsters, naturally devoting much of their time to Loch Ness's own resident monster. Other monsters will feature on the course, including field trips to different parts of the world where less well known monsters terrorise the locals.

For their first project, students will have to prove that they have had an actual encounter with the Loch Ness monster. Other projects will focus on noise, smell, colour, habitat, breeding, and of course their eating activities. At the end of the course a totally new monster will be constructed by the students, and placed in a special theme park.

       Really?
xenzag, Aug 03 2021

Of course they don't advertise, and the campus is hidden.

I think it was either in Greece or Spain where I paid for a temporary maze of wall paintings showing monsters from mythology. Many of them were Greek. They weren't actually monsters but gods sometimes, at least in Egypt or earlier.

You're hired for the second semester "Greek Monsters"
xenzag, Aug 03 2021

As long as there are living examples engaged in terrorising a community somewhere.
xenzag, Aug 03 2021

       Monsters?

Did you just assume their mind-set?! Shame on you.

Maybe they are horrifically terrifying and yet identify as caring, cuddly and completely misunderstood.

       You don't know...

I've been an agnostic all my life, but as with the Greek gods, I really wonder if gods with human failings are a better replacement for mystical perfection. Are homosexual alternatives to clerics going to create organizations to help the poor en masse for example, whatever their motives. I suspect they will have the same problem or worse with pedophiles.

As well as the Yeti, don't forget the Australian Yowie, the Canadian Nuk-luk, the Missouri Momo, and the Louisiana Swamp Ape.

There are a number of self-taught Fortean experts who have published catalogues of strange sightings. Some of these experts may have somehow become time travellers or backwards psychics and can see monsters in ancient times as well as far into the future.

You seem very well informed. Would you like to teach a module on your specialisation?
xenzag, Aug 04 2021

Not sure if xenzag is unaware of or is alluding to the actual monstrous abuse of children at the Loch Ness-adjacent Fort Augustus Abbey School...
calum, Aug 04 2021

I am not well informed re the abuse of children in any locale. If they have been eaten by the monster, that will definitely feature in the curriculum.

Just another reason visitors may be wary to go on "Virgin Offer Specials"

+ a crypto school might enlighten a lot of people that all the *horror* in children’s stories are based on facts. (Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood etc.)
xandram, Aug 04 2021

There are certainly plenty of trolls around, and they no longer just lurk under bridges. (song link - just ignore unwanted shite advert at start)

Did somebody say 'Dogman?' Why, my son's favorite book series...

//an actual brick and mortar site would add some polish//

Hmm .. if you're interested I think I can get you a deal on Bran Castle, we can take it down numbering the bricks for transport & rebuild at the sight of your choice along the loch?

       //the Yeti//

Isn't properly speaking a real monster you know.

It was just great uncle Tobias, he'd both Hypertrichosis & Albinism.

Apparently he was spotted on his solo expedition to the Himalayas in 1925.

Claims he just popped out of the tent for a pee the previous night & didn't think to get dressed because he didn't expect to be gone that long then got lost ln the snow couldn't find his tent & was too embarrassed to approach Tombazi's group on the way back down the next day while naked so ran away when he saw them.

Or so he says, popular family gossip has him as something of an exhibitionist & a joker though, so he may have done it deliberately.
