The Daedalus Project

Fight Flat Earthers with Kindness

This 503c foundation collects money to provide any Flat Earther with the necessary epiphany, by paying for their ticket on Virgin Galactic or any available alternative.

Though initially tickets are in the $250K range, they are expected to fall in price over time, and thus opening the chance to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, one of the most persistent conspiracy theories.

(we will consider an extension to support Moon trips when prices come into range)

       // Moon trips //

       Will those include the hollow interior ?

       The cost of the Moon trips will be offset by the revenue from cheese mining

       Hypnotism, mind-control drugs and VR projection screens cost a lot less than $250k. Not only do you try and con people into believing your "orthodox" conspiracy but you get to make a huge profit off them too.

       The Universe is flat and the Earth is part of the Universe, so...
the porpoise, Jan 14 2020

       [pocmloc] But travel to the Moon is risky and so you'd expect a certain number of trips to fail catastrophically, with the loss of life of all passengers. If you fake it with hypnotism and VR you'll soon be found out because of the remarkably low death-rate associated with your Moon travel service... - *unless* you're prepared to kill a certain percentage of the people who sign up for your service in order to maintain the pretence.

       bah, risky, Elon will fix it.

       Commercial air carriers have got away with that for decades,so why not ?

       Daedalus...wasn't that a cartoon in New Scientist...further delving shows he was the bloke who first proposed bucky ball stuff see link

       Daedalus an artisan, father of Icarus, Greek myth, made them both wings to escape a prison.. there were design flaws, namely that they weren't idiot proof, his son was an idiot.. didn't end well .. also known for pushing his nephew off a tall building for being a smartass & showing him up at trade fairs, thereby inventing defenestration.

       // defenestration //

       Ah yes, that's when the microshyte tech support helpline tells you to "try closing all the windows and then opening them again" ...

       Thanks for nothing, Bill.

       A lomg-running back-page column. An interesting bloke; a direct descendant of [MB]'s famous Great-great-great uncle, Dr. Strabismus Buchanan (whom God preserve) of Utrecht.

       // Daedalus an artisan, father of Icarus // Once Icarus flew above the noise and confusion, just to get a glimpse beyond the Flat Earth illusion, his wings melted and he found out he's not in Kansas anymore.

       Let me have a go at that.

       Once Icarus flew above the noise and confusion. just to get a glimpse beyond the Flat Earth illusion His wings melted. Its feathers moulted. And he fell to earth to acquire many contusions.
Skewed, Jan 14 2020

       Um, so, all I have to do to get a free ride on Virgin Galactic is claim that the Earth is flat? Where do I sign up?
