Hot water bottles are not my bag. Their fundamental flaw is that they go cold.
But not so, with a Tethered Hot Water Bottle! Two hoses form the tether ("umbilical cord") which can be connected to a variety of heat sources including, but not limited to:
- a waterjacket to surround your log burning
fire
- an electric boiler with immersion heating element
- automotive engine coolant
Alternatively, since the Tethered Hot Water Bottle is reinforced to be capable of handling high pressure, it can be plumbed directly into your home's central heating system.
Shih Tzu

// Their fundamental flaw is that they go cold. // |

What you require is a Shih Tzu. |
In a pinch, you can achieve the same effect by binding
together 4 cats with twine. |
<prolonged miaowing and scrabbling> |
No, you can't. You can't tie four live cats together with twine, and
four dead cats go cold quite quickly. |
You and your bright ideas. |
A tethered dead cat, then? |
Would you have room to swing one? |
//What you require is a Shih Tzu.// There are
probably very few people, outside the pipeline-
cleaning business, who have ever written that
phrase. |
Balderdash! Two people have done so in this thread. |
Assuming, that is, that [Max] and [8/7] are two
people. |

Assuming, that is, that [Max] and [8/7] are people |
So big bad [8th] hates cats, but likes small dogs? |
Now I'm confused. Do you cart your little poopie-kins around in a stroller, too? |
A doberman or great dane would be even more effective at heating, but dogs live outside. |
That is grammatically correct, but would be more accurate if you
employed the simple declarative Present tense, i.e. "I am confused",
with its implication that you are now, and always have been,
confused. |
// Do you cart your little poopie-kins around in a stroller, too? // |
No. They are entirely self-propelled. |
// [Max] and [8/7] are two people. // |
A point. The Tethered Hot Water Bottle does not need walking, grooming, feeding, or explaining to others why you have a Shih Tzu. |
A well-trained Shih Tzu, on the other hand, might be
able to help round up enough cats for further
experimentation, but the Shih Tzu might get itself
killed trying. You're going to need a bigger dog for
that. |
That said, little dogs are still dogs. Even the
smallest dog comes when it's called, and will take
commands. Custard, I think you may not realize
that many small dog breeds were bred for a very
specific purpose that is not as pampered and
wimpy as you'd think. The Chinese Hairless, for
instance, was bred to replace cats as a ratter on
ships. They were bred for hairlessness so as not to
carry fleas or other insects from port to port. |
Walking is no problem. Grooming ? Keep their coats short and
they not only need little grooming, but emit more heat. And as
for feeding- they just eat whatever you were about to

You don't know much about Shih Tzu, do you ? |
// might be able to help round up enough cats for further experimentation // |
No. You thought cats were lazy ? |
// Shih Tzu might get itself killed trying. // |
The only way they would kill themselves trying anything would be to explode when trying to consume an entire roasted deer. |
// little dogs are still dogs. // |
Some more so than others. |
// Even the smallest dog comes when it's called, and will take commands. // |
You really don't know anything about Shih Tzu, do you ? |
// many small dog breeds were bred for a very specific purpose // |
... like Chihuahuas, which were bred to be nailed to a pole and used to unblock sewers. |
// not as pampered and wimpy as you'd think. // |
You know nothing about Shih Tzu, do you ? |
// The Chinese Hairless, for instance, was bred to

Presumably that was a function that the cats continued to perform with exemplary skill. |

Is there a pre-exisiting post about using this sort of thing to carry the warmth of a campfire into the tent ? |
//carry the warmth of a campfire into the tent// |
If you build your campfire *inside* the tent, you would have a sort of miniature Dyson Sphere, collecting the radiant warmth of the fire. Better still, if you were to build some sort of structure to contain the fire, say a cast iron stove, and insulate the walls of the tent with material that's readily available in the forest - logs come to mind - you would then have a more perfect enclosure in which to *rough it*. |
