U.S. Soldiers have a little mount on the front of their helmets to afix night vision goggles to. I want the same thing for a vastly improved combination telescope/microscope, able to peer way into the distance, and then, by way of a hand held controller, focus in down to the microscopic level. Binoculars are nice, as are monoculars and spotting scopes, but your arms get tired, or your constantly refocusing, or straining to keep one eye closed. Microscopes require a whole procedure to get something onto the slides, etc. I heard that some of the mirrors they used to correct the Hubble Telescope were the size of dental mirrors, so miniaturization is not out of the question. An extended session with on of these babies would give you a new appreciation of the world, you could find all kinds of cool things to look at, in a relaxed and comfortable way, without distraction.

Annotation:

I don't know that you can go from telescope to microscope as easily as all that. You would probably need two different eyepieces or, as in the link, an adapter. Also, a strap-on is better than a helmet (cooler), if somewhat Widely Baked for this purpose.

A helmet-mounted telescope or microscope will be shaking so much as to be useless.

Nah, the head is steadier than than hand, I don't want just a magnifying lens.
