Technology Coroner

Digs up the truth

When a person dies under mysterious circumstances a coroner automatically investigates.

But if no-one actually dies (Near miss) then there may be calls for an enquiry but sometimes nothing gets done.

Maybe there should be a public official with investigative powers, like a coroner, who automatically moves in when things go badly wrong, even though no-one is actually killed. Someone with a bit more clout and manpower than the Health and Safety executive, who holds public hearings and makes findings.

I thought this might be an idea for the creation of an office for a person who has the task of determining the cause of death of things like Betamax and the Apple Newton.

Waugsqueke: There's nothing wrong with Betamax. It lives on as a professional format. The Beta-wrap gives far superior perfomance and head contact to the W-Wrap used in VHS machines.

Yes, maybe he (or she) could investigate stillborn ideas, or those that suffer "cot death" ? What would the path lab reports look like, I wonder ?

Maybe another role is to watch for dangerous pathogenic ideas - a bit like an intelectual CDC. I guess Halfbakery is the petri dish.

Any other sad bu88ers want to try and stretch the analogy a bit further ?

Beauxeault: How very apt. The Murphy's Lawyers would be able to counsel and represent those brought before the court. Since it is not a criminal court, but a court of enquiry, there would be no penalties or sanctions other than for contempt.

For a minute there I thought you said "The Beta-Wrap gives far superior head".

Stupop: Are the voices in your head particularly loud today ?

If you try to satisfy your perverted lusts through the agency of a front-loading video cassette player, and you have a Bad Experience, don't come limping, whining and cringing back to me with a writ in one hand and your Personal parts in a paper bag in the other. You were warned. Some of those parts on the threading table are d@mned sharp .... I have scars to prove it.

But only on my fingers, I would add....

Another example of the 'Beta-max' phenomenon was when satellite dishes became popular - the superior BSB 'squarial' fell by the wayside in favour of the Sky dish.

Oh but the sensuous curves on that Sky dish...hmmmm.
