Teach Wild Birds To Sing Particular Melodies

Place robot birds around that sing short music box style melodies using bird tweet samples.

Birds sing particular melodies, we could train them to sing little tunes we write.

From the day they hatch, they hear samples of their subspecies arranged into human melodies. They repeat them and it becomes their official call.

If there are any birds that only sing at night I'd teach them Brahms Lullaby.

Your local park would feel like a Disney cartoon.

ADDENDUM: No need for a robot bird, just a bird feeder with the little sample player.

I've not read the books, but these birds were in that film about a compulsory game of "let's all kill each other" which wasn't Battle Royale, whatever that was.
You'd whistle a few notes and they'd all kick off.

I'm surprised big companies aren't already doing this with their jingles.
21 Quest, Feb 27 2023

God, I thought of that too and didn't want to say anything.

       Sick minds think alike.

       Slainte, brother.

Now I want to get one to teach the birds common cellphone ringtones like the T-Jingle lol

Let’s hope nobody from an ad agency sees this.

       From the link.

"Usually, birds copy what they hear the most. Birds in rural areas have added the sound of horses whinnying, lawn mowers and even chainsaws to their repertoires. In cities, birds have added car alarms, the warning beep of a truck backing up and police sirens to their calls, experts say."

Okay, I hate to say it but it's only a matter of time. I'd actually be okay with a law saying you CAN'T train wild birds to sing your company's commercial tune. I know that's not very libertarian, but libertarianism also allows for us all agreeing on something.

I don't think that law would get a lot of pushback.

Pretty bits from classical music though? I think people would like that. Might even work out for the birds, people start putting out more bird feeders so they can hear the pretty music.

       There's a thought.

I've got it! I'm going to sell a bird feeder that trains the birds to sing a particular melody.

Built in digital player with 20 melodies played with actual bird samples.

You'd be able to adjust how often it plays it. Seems like very 5 minutes or so should do it.

Buying the sampler today. I'll post the results.

       <evil>
Do it "House of Stairs" style: feeder plays a tune to the bird, but only delivers feed once the bird repeats it back well enough. Gradually add complexity & length to the tune.

       Whoa!

How complicated might those tunes get if you started from when they were chicks?

And how did this get so evil so quickly?
doctorremulac3, Feb 27 2023

I got inspired by the "feeder with melody" part.
If you don't know House of Stairs, it's a very weird book. Somewhat inexplicably, I (& class) studied it in high school. Has some minor similarities to Lord of the Flies (which I didn't like much), but at least they were a change from Shakespeare.

I've been doing this for some time now (see video). But I'm not a robot (AFAIK).

       Hey!! I know Michael Goldstein!
pashute, Feb 28 2023

I was so excited to click on the "me teaching a bird to sing" link but I only hear someone whistling a tune to a confused looking bird.

Sort of like me saying "Me teaching a turtle quantum mechanics" and you click on the video and it's me sitting next to a turtle saying "Quantum mechanics is a fundamental theory in physics that provides a description of the physical properties of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles." Then maybe handing him a piece of lettuce before continuing.

Was that you pashute? If so I apologize for the joke, but I greatly appreciate the effort though.

Hey, why did you stop the lesson?
