100 years from The Roaring 20s, the time has come to apply
technology to give voice to thousands of silent movies.
Using computer assisted lip synching, supplied dialog, and
where available, recordings of actors (or fully digitized voices
if needed), add natural pronounced, lip-synched voice
to
silent movies and reissue them in that format.

The lip-synching presupposes that the actors were speaking
dialog that was carefully scripted despite its never being
recorded. You might find out that they were speaking
complete bollocks for much of the time - perhaps some lip-
readers can confirm or deny? |
|
|
[edit] A quick Google suggests that they usually did speak
their lines as scripted, but with occasional lapses that tended
to be noticed by lip-readers. |
|
|
CGI could fix the lip-synch. |

Why stop at sound ? Monochrome movies are now routinely colourized; with a little more tinkering it could be converted to 3D, too. |
|
|
It's also notable that the plots of many early movies are
somewhat dated, perhaps due to the constraints of the
medium at that time. A little editing, and generation of
additional scenes where needed, could solve this problem. |

No doubt leading to movies like "Titanic XXIV: It Still Hits An Iceberg And Sinks, But With Zombies This Time" ... |

You might be able to recapture the actors actual vocalizations and background noise from the video. [link] |

//the researchers used a high-speed camera that captured 2,000 to 6,000 frames per second// Ah yes I remember seeing those 2000fps Buster Keaton chase scenes. |

And here I was all excited to read about coinage backed by the light of
the song of the Ilùvatar. |

I suppose this way of looking at reality means that all tokens are also
tolkiens. |

I'd prefer to have new releases turned into silent movies. Would be
better for aircraft viewing. |
|
|
We disagree. Watching video of aircraft without the deafening scream of a turbine, or the melodious burbling of a Mk. XXIV Merlin, is deeply unsatisfying. |
