The phrase 'crumpled heap' comes to mind.

TV Show Reminder

Many a times I just forget the date and time of a show that I wanted to see on TV. I would be tuned to another channel and then suddenly I would realize that I missed the show that I had planned to watch. It would be nice to have a feature in the TV set that could store the day, time and channel number of the program that I wish to see and then would flash the TV screen with the channel number/name of the program (if I am on another channel) that I should be watching on that day at that time.

ReplayTV or Tivo http://www.replaytv.com/
A digital TV recorder will do this, and much more---in some cases it will even pick shows for you. [krelnik, Oct 04 2004]

Annotation:

This has been done... With the digital TV I use you can set reminders that flash up 5 minutes before the program and prompt to change channel (or indeed automatically change for you). It can be set for 'one off' or daily or weekly use.
