TO Hinges

Trigonopterus Oblongus hinging for various applications

These cool creatures use a screw and nut assembly to drive the hinges in their legs. (linky)

I am looking for evidence of humans using such same assemblies for hinging actions. If they do not, then it is my idea to create some assemblies like this in various sizes and materials and go to town, see how useful it may be.

It appears that the hip is the bolt and the leg is the screw, and as the bone screws into the hip an advanced range of motion is achieved.. [daseva, Jul 05 2011]
