Contestents are seated on sticks of "dynamite" connected to cartoon-style plunger detonators. Of course, these are just props, and all explosions are added in post-production with computer graphics.
The idea is very, very simple. A prize is announced. First one to push their plunger wins the prize
-- unless they blow up! Whether one blows up or not is completely random. Odds of blowing up decrease as time goes on. So it would start at 100% certainty, and decay by 5% a second. The longer you wait, the less likely you are to blow up. The longer you wait, the more likely someone else steal your prize.
This would be fun for 20 minutes until my ADD kicks in again.

It has been shown that the average attention span is not often much more that 20-30 minutes so I wouldn't worry too much ;-) |

Instead of explosions, this could be done with UK Saturday TV staple the gunge tank, the foolhardy contestant being slimed in coloured hydroxyethyl cellulose (thanks wikipedia) and then dragged off to be replaced by another contestant from the audience. |

Boo. We demand reality TV. |

This idea is, without doubt, one of [tosspot62]'s top
ten. |

Sadly, it is also one of his or her "Ten Worst"

//reality TV// Indeed: a worthy replacement for getting "voted off". |
|
|
caveat: if you blow up you don't get the prize. |
